Serving Christ to help RENEW UGANDA

After 35 years of leading national and international Christian schools on three continents, God has called Mark to be a catalyst to a much larger movement He is orchestrating in Uganda – a systematic approach to capture the hearts and minds of millions of vulnerable children.

Mark Guthrie

Mark Guthrie currently serves as the Executive Director for Renew Uganda. He has previously served as the Country Director for Children of Grace (Uganda), Principal at AHA International School (NC), and as the Director/Head of School at The Amazima School (Uganda). Before transitioning to Uganda, Mark worked for 10 years as Head of School at Caldwell Academy – a classical Christian K-12 school located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Prior to Caldwell, Mark served as the Director of The American School of Lyon in Lyon, France. For 35 years now, Mark has focused on providing an exceptional Christian education to all levels of students around the world. Mark has effectively taught at the university, high school, and middle school levels and has successfully directed national and international schools on three different continents.

Mark holds educational degrees in Mathematics (BS and MA) and Educational Administration/Supervision (EdS) from Bob Jones University, The Ohio State University, and Lincoln Memorial University. Mark has four grown children: Christian, Victoria, Pius, and Brian. Pius and Brian were adopted from Uganda in December, 2010.

The Opportunity

Mark and his family moved to Uganda in 2014 to serve vulnerable children and initiate generational transformation. He developed and launched a classical Christian secondary boarding school (now a model for many of Ugandan schools) built on  strong academics, servant leadership, and most importantly, nurturing relationships.

Mark now provides instructor training, curriculum development, Biblical integration and discipleship to impact over 30,000 Ugandan schools from nursery through university. This position allows Mark and his team to apply the same Christ-centered, classical model he used at The American School of Lyon (France), Caldwell Academy (NC) and The Amazima School (Uganda) to introduce thousands of Ugandan educators and millions of students to Jesus Christ and to give them the tools to become the men and women they are created to be.

Mark’s ministry focus is Biblical education and discipleship through life-on-life mentoring. In December of 2022, Mark, along with other Ugandan educational leaders, launched the Renew Uganda Initiative (RUI). RUI empowers educators and brings together the major Christian education institutions in Uganda to strategically plan for the future of effective Christian education in Uganda.

Asking God

In Luganda (the local tribal language) we have a saying of “Kino Kyekisela,” meaning “the time is now.” The RUI team is writing a new narrative in a country and region where God is clearly at work. This narrative must start by renewing the hearts and minds of educators on behalf of the children. Transformed people transform people. The Gospel changes everything!

Instead of investing in buildings, we invest in people. The annual need is $150,000. This provides training, transportation, housing, and ministry expenses. Donations are tax deductible. Click HERE to donate.

Thank you so much for your prayerful consideration in partnering with our team in this strategic ministry opportunity to advance the gospel in Uganda.

With love and gratitude,

Mark and the Renew Uganda Initiative Team
