Why Renew Uganda Initiative?
Uganda's education crisis is a crisis of formation.
Renew Uganda Initiative is a Christian education nonprofit that forms and disciples teachers in Uganda. We equip Christ-centred educators who combine biblical truth, godly character, professional competence, technological fluency and transformational leadership, because renewing a nation's teachers is how you renew the nation.

The crisis of formation
What is the state of education in Uganda?
Uganda faces a deepening crisis of formation. It shows in teenage pregnancy, child marriage, school dropout, teacher absenteeism, sexual abuse, illiteracy, weak leadership and corruption. The evidence is sobering.
These are not only failures of the education system. They point to a deeper crisis of formation and discipleship.
Why teachers
Why are teachers the key to transforming Uganda?
“We teach who we are.”
Parker J. Palmer, The Courage to Teach7
“Everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
Jesus, Luke 6:40 (NIV)8
Teachers pass on more than knowledge. They reproduce character, values, worldview, attitudes and skills. Yet the World Bank found that only 1 in 5 Ugandan primary teachers showed mastery of the curriculum they teach.2
Whatever is formed in a teacher, strength or weakness, is carried by their students into families, businesses, government, healthcare, agriculture, the Church and every sphere of society.
National transformation begins with the formation of the people who form its people.
Our response
How does Renew Uganda Initiative break the cycle?
We train and disciple teachers and school leaders through five connected approaches:
- 1 Discipleship Growing Christ-like character in every educator.
- 2 Biblical worldview integration Teaching every subject through the lens of biblical truth.
- 3 Technology integration Building digital skills and responsible use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
- 4 Industry-focused innovation Linking learning to real work, enterprise and local industry.
- 5 Competency-based Christian education Aligned with Uganda's competency-based curriculum, with Christ at the centre.
The result is educators who multiply these qualities in their students, their schools and the generations that follow.

Why now?
Uganda's education system is at a turning point. Competency-based learning, rapid technological change, artificial intelligence and closer links between schools and industry are reshaping what education looks like. This is a challenge, and it is also a rare opportunity to rethink what education is for and what kind of people it should form.
The question is no longer only "How do we educate more children?" It is also "What kind of people are we forming, and what kind of society will they build?"
Educational reform, new technology, the needs of industry and the urgent call for character and discipleship are arriving together. That creates a unique moment to build an education system in Uganda that is both biblically grounded and ready for the future.
Renew Uganda Initiative brings together faith, education, technology, innovation, industry and formation to equip educators who prepare the next generation to do more than pass examinations: to think biblically, live faithfully, work competently, innovate responsibly and transform society.
